Just beyond these peaks, in Granite Park, sits Bear Lakes Basin. Looking to the right hand side of this image, you can see Granite Bear Pass with a patch of snow on it. It's just to the left of that tall majestic spire. Bear Lakes Basin eluded me on this particular trip due to too much ice and snow on the slope leading to the pass. Thankfully, I was able to capture this image. The air at 11,000 feet is different. The atmosphere is thinner and the sky is more brilliant. The curved line of the cloud layer above and the matching arch of the lakes shoreline below frame this fractured mountain range of white granite in a way that forces the eye to the center. Which was also the infinitely beautiful destination. | Granite Park, High Sierra, CA
